How to Design a Kid’s Bedroom

baby bedroom furniture

To design a bedroom for your child can be a very special and tricky undertaking, but also a lot of fun and the end result will be the look on your child’s face, well worth all the hard work to any parent.

Your aim should be to design the room to reflect your child’s likes and fit in with their personality, so ensure you involve them in the process and don’t get carried away and decorate it how you want it!

How much input your child has will depend on their age but be enthusiastic and treat it as a fun project and they are sure to have their say.

The perfect child’s room should serve a number of functions, not just a place for them to sleep but also to do homework, listen to music, entertain friends and generally chill out.

To get started and pick up some unique and cool ideas, take your child window shopping. This will let you see what is available out there and your child can vocalise their likes and dislikes.

The great thing about kid’s furniture is that a lot of it can be multi functional and maximise space, ensure you have the room measurements before actually purchasing anything and check out the floor space too,

it’s no good if drawers and cupboard doors don’t have room to open properly.

Plan if you will paint the room or wallpaper. Painting is quite simple and bright whilst wallpapers can follow the theme chosen or exhibit movie characters, such as Disney.

Kids love themes. Everything can be purchased to fit a particular theme from wallpaper, bedding, pillows, curtains and rugs to chairs, doorknobs and towels.

You will know from experience that kids have a lot of ‘stuff’ and storage will be a priority.
Toys, clothes, books, games, all need to be cleared away and if provided with their own little shelf or box, your child will be more inclined to put them away after playing and keep the room tidy, or tidy-ish!

There are all kinds of organising structures to buy.

One of the most popular is a bunk bed that integrates a computer or seating area with storage drawers underneath. Beds can come with this built in storage or shaped as a car or fantasy bed, kids especially love these novelty beds.

Add children’s bedding, pillows, sheets and curtains and there’s a great child’s bedroom complete.

As we all know, children grow up fast, one minute they are tiny babies and the next walking and talking with a personality of their own.

Take this into consideration when designing their room, unless you are planning on redecorating every couple of years.

If the design is too age specific your child will grow out of it and you might find yourself having to, all too soon, do it all again.

Designing a child’s room can be fun and an ideal way to spend quality time together.

Keep to the basic principles and it will be a precious and rewarding time for everyone.

A bedroom is the most private and personal room in the house. It reflects the personality and style of the residents, therefore it is important to have the right décor, consisting of beds, floorings, almirahs, carpets & rugs, lighting, etc to style it according to your taste. Unlike the living room furniture, bedroom furniture need not be very formal, so you can let your imagination go wild and create a unique and unparallel bedroom.

The most prominent items in any bedroom are the beds, so selecting a bed is a crucial step in creating a good ambiance. A bed is a sacred haven for an individual since it is here that he has regular rest, relaxation and recovery. Beds can be of umpteen varieties like frame bed, divan bed, mattress bed, bunk bed, sofa bed, fold up bead, etc. however, while choosing a bed, comfort should not be compromised with design. A well designed but uncomfortable bed can lead to backaches and insomnia. Along with the bed, the mattress and bedding also play a crucial role in changing the look of your bedroom.

Next in the list are the carpets & rugs . A rug can add comfort and depth to the bedroom. A rug has both functional as well as aesthetic value. However the use of rugs is not only limited to the floor. A rug can be hung on the bedroom wall to give a poster effect and add color to the bedroom.Bedroom carpets provide a warm and cozy feeling to the room, and also provide a contrast to the wood of the bed and other furniture in the bedroom. Use of ethnic and unique carpets will give a pleasant and inviting feel to the bedroom.

Flooring of the bedroom should be chosen keeping in mind the usage of the bedroom floor and durability of the material used. Wood flooring is quite prevalent in bedrooms because it goes with all kind of furniture and has a glossy finish. However these floors are difficult to maintain and requires great care. Marble flooring offers an elegant and luxurious look to your bedroom, but they are quite expensive and require regular care to maintain that luxurious look. Laminate flooring is the most convenient and long lasting. It comes in a variety of designs and styles, thus spoiling you for choices.

Proper lighting can spruce up the whole look of your bedroom and create an altogether different ambiance which you could never have imagined.

Go ahead and decorate your room with the furniture according to your taste and see the wonders a well maintained bedroom will do to relax and rejuvenate you and help you unwind after a long and tiring day of work.
