Top 10 Tips When Choosing Your Bedroom Furniture

Bedroom Furniture

Choosing your bedroom furniture is a very important task. Your bedroom is a place that needs to be tranquil and perfectly suited to your taste. Once you have chosen the furniture for your bedroom you are stuck with it for at least a year or two and so be sure you like it! Here are some tips to consider when choosing your bedroom furniture:

1. Choose An Era – don’t just look at what is in fashion today, be a bit different and look at fashions from different eras such as from the sixties or retro 70’s.

2. Furniture Tidy – choose your bedroom furniture to aid in keeping your bedroom tidy and clean such as lots of drawers and shelves.

3. Second hand shops – as well looking around your local furniture shops and Ikea have a look at some second hand shops or charity shops, they often have some gorgeous rustic pieces and for a good price.

4. Fitted or Not Fitted – think twice before having fitted bedroom furniture as once it is in it is in! In order to change fitted bedroom furniture you would need to rip it all out and start again which is time consuming and costly. Stand alone pieces are easier to change as and when you want to.

5. Bedroom Chairs – remember a bedroom chair. Bedroom chairs are great as they are practical, elegant and the new in thing. The bedroom chair is not usually apart of the suite and so have a look around for a style that could go with your new bedroom.

6. Space Saving Beds – when choosing your bed style consider how it can help as a space saver as well as a place to sleep. You can choose a bed frame with drawers built into them, or choose a style that is off the ground so you can easily fit boxes and other items under the bed for storage.

7. Design Your Own – do you have a very strong sense of what it is you are after? Are you a dab hand with a pencil and paper? Try designing your own and doodle down a design or two and take it into a shop that creates bespoke pieces. It may even work out cheaper than high street suites.

8. Materials Give Style – think about the style you are wanting to portray in your bedroom. Some materials work better for certain styles than others. For example if you are wanting a really homey style that is very country bunchkin then wood or distressed wood furniture would be a lot better suited than metal. Consider your style then choose your material.

9. Ask For Ideas – before purchasing anything ask friends and family their ideas and thoughts, they are going to see it anyway and better to hear their thoughts before it is too late!

10. Haggle – always try and negotiate the price down as much as you can. Sales people have targets to meet and if you can assure them of a sale there and then for an extra £50 off they are most likely to agree.
