Wood for Outdoor Furniture

luxury bedroom furniture

Outdoor furniture is a luxury that many do not enjoy. You need a good mount of space to accommodate this furniture.

Outdoor wood furniture is not nearly as popular as it once was. For quite a while now, outdoor furniture alternatives have been cheaper than the traditional wood. Metal and plastic can be machined and mass produced, eliminating any expertise required of an individual craftsman. Furthermore, these alternatives also require less upkeep than wood furniture. However, more expensive, hand-crafted wood is undoubtedly a great luxury. Your outdoor furniture will be your own and no one can duplicate it.

The most common and popular type of outdoor wood furniture is teak. Teak is the hardest of hardwoods and will stand up to outdoor conditions better than essentially every other readily available wood. Generally speaking, you can have outdoor wood furniture made from almost any type of wood, but you should plan on having it treated, sealed, and re-sealed every year or two.

Wooden furniture is mostly utilized as outdoor garden furniture. The look of your outdoor furniture is paramount to creating a beautiful garden. Metal furniture in a garden doesn’t essentially blend in with the surrounding and have high maintenance. The one big looming danger for garden furniture is the possibility of attracting pests. Not taking enough precautions may attract pests that will destroy your furniture.

Another alternative to Teak is the Ipe. Ipe is a wood that naturally resists rot, decay, insects, and mold without the use of toxic chemicals. Ipe is also naturally fire resistant and has been awarded an ‘A1′ rating, which is the highest rating in this category. Because of all these attributes it is very durable, and because it is a very dense wood, Ipe furniture is very heavy. This type of wood is harvested from naturally sustainable forests, and you can find FSC-certified Ipe wood easily. This wood, which grows in many South American locations, but mainly in Brazil, is also known as Ironwood, Brazilian Walnut, Pau Lope or Lapacho.

Ipe starts out as a reddish-brown wood and gradually acquires a silver patina. And thus, Ipe is ideal for outdoor furniture and decking.

Undoubtedly, wood is still a viable choice, but its alternatives have been taking an ever-increasing percentage of the market share. Aluminum and concrete finishes are becoming more and more decorative and impressive. Plastic furniture can also be decorative and sturdier than many homeowners imagine.

Nothing is going to eliminate the maintenance and care that outdoor furniture requires, but the better the protection you can give your furniture, the longer it will last and the more sense the investment will make.

Child Proof Your Bedroom Furniture

Bedroom Furniture

Child proof your home and the furniture

If you have small children you’ll always have a concern for their safety and so it is necessary to take note of your surroundings around the home to minimalise accidents and injury. So whether it’s your first time expecting or you already have children go around your house and baby proof as much as you can, this includes moving dangerous objects to top shelves out of reach, moving dangerous furniture, maybe a little DIY is needed to make something more safe and so on.

How about in the bedroom? How can you make the bedroom and bedroom furniture child safe?

Child proofing the bedroom is exceptionally important and so where do you start. First look at the bedroom furniture and identify if they are safe to be in the bedroom for the child or not. Modern bedroom furniture tends to be more dangerous as they have sharp edges and hard lines, and they are usually made out of metal or harder materials. If a child was to fall and hit metal furniture this would cause serious injury. Try choosing a softer material for your bedroom furniture, for example for your bed frame a huge metal frame that sticks out into the path where people and children will be walking by is prone to accidents, a standard bed base fits perfectly underneath the mattress and so there is nothing sticking out which cant trip anyone up or get in the way.

Move pictures with glass frames higher up out of reach from children playing with them. Broken glass can be very dangerous and so moving picture up out of the way from children reaching up and playing with them takes away the risk of them being broken and injuring the child.

Most windows today come with a lock and so lock all windows shut so children can’t climb up and go out the window, even windows on the bottom floor, children falling from this height can still hurt them, and so to take away any risk of this, keep all windows locked and keep the key out of reach from the children.

Different Materials of Bedroom Suites

metal bedroom furniture

They are many different types of materials to choose from when searching for the right bedroom suite for you – wooden, metal, cast iron, plastic and many more. So which material is better than the other? Which furniture material should you choose for your bedroom? Well the decision is completely up to you, no material is better than the other per say but each has their own perks and their own downfalls. Let’s have a closer look at the main materials used today for bedroom furniture and suites.

Metal – metal bedroom furniture tends to be associated with bachelor pads and modern funky houses or apartments. Metal is a lot harder material than say wood is and is quite abstract and arty and so you usually see metal beds in single people’s houses or couples without kids – if a child was to fall over and hit their head on a metal bed frame this would be a lot more dangerous than a wooden or foam frame. Metal bedroom furniture usually goes hand in hand with black and red accessories to finish off the contemporary, clean, stylish and modern look. Metal is great if you are going for that wow factor but is not usually best for family homes.

Cast Iron – cast iron and wrought iron is a timeless material to use for your bedroom furniture. Iron is the material that comes between wood and metal as it encompasses the warmth that wood portrays and the style and sleekness of metal. Cast iron tends to be the most expensive material out of wood and metal, cast iron pieces of furniture are exceptionally sturdy without being bulky like wooden furniture can be, and you have a range of colours to choose from. Cast iron is the best option of bedroom furniture is money is no object but unfortunately if you are fixing up your bedroom and budget is very much an issue cast iron is usually ruled out straight away as it does tend to be on the expensive side.

Materials plus Mirrors and Glass – many bedroom suite ranges offer beautiful wooden or metal framed furniture with a gorgeous finishing touch of glass or mirrors. For example you will see available wooden wardrobes with mirrored doors, or metal cupboards with black glass doors. This is a great option if you want to add the illusion of space to your bedroom. The mirrors and glass create a reflection which will make the room appear larger than it is. The glass doors gives your bedroom suite a sense of cleanliness and style and mirrored doors doesn’t only look good but they are practical as well.

Your bed is a very important part of your bedroom and your life. It is a place that needs to comfortable and warm but also stylish and to your taste. Your bedroom furniture and bed should be inviting and soothing, so at the end of a long day you can curl up in bed and relax.

Choosing furniture for your bedroom can be quite tricky as there are so many options available, but once you have a style to your bedroom you can then choose a bed that fits in with your bedroom interior and with your bedroom furniture perfectly.

Some of the different types of beds for your bedroom

First things first when choosing your bed, look around your bedroom and your bedroom furniture and decide if it is modern and contemporary, extravagant and Victorian, or simple and minimal. From here you can choose a bed that fits in with your fashion taste. You may wish to go for an Oriental design that is very stylish and modern or maybe you like the wooden antique look. It is better to choose a bed that suits your pre-existing bedroom furniture as it may look a little strange having a large mahogany four poster bed in with a bedroom that is mainly white, minimal and silver metal furniture.

Tips to help you choose the right style bed to fit in with your bedroom furniture

The key to choosing the right bed for your bedroom and your bedroom furniture is to gather as many design examples as you can to give you ideas and inspiration, this can include going through Home magazines, picking up bedroom furniture leaflets, and going to your local DIY shop to look through colour and fabric charts. You can also search online and go through websites and pictures by typing in ‘bedroom furniture’ into a search engine. This will return many website results that specialize in bedroom furniture for you to browse through.

Choosing Metal Beds That You Can Trust

metal bedroom furniture

In terms of bedroom decor, not all furniture is created equal, and even within a particular type or style of furniture, you’ll find various levels of quality. This is especially true of metal beds, which are well known for their low cost and relatively good durability. However, what they are also known for is poor quality and lack of confidence in their sturdiness. It seems that many such beds are unstable and rickety, not being well put together. How do you know what sort of metal bed you can trust in various rooms of your home?

Master bedroom furniture can be quite expensive, and you are probably looking to save every penny. If you choose to do so with metal, don’t opt for a king size metal bed. Because this particular size is so large, it contains numerous pieces – many more than a full size or queen size option – which leads to more opportunity for flawed parts or rickety joints. Therefore, if you want to make sure that the furniture in your master bedroom is trustworthy, either spare the expense elsewhere or opt for a smaller master bed. Going king will only lead to trouble and constant tweaks, tightening of joints, and repairs.

Aside from the master suite, the most common location for metal beds is in the children’s rooms. Because you know your child will continuously outgrow his or her furniture, you need the most affordable bedroom furniture possible for them. Therefore, you choose to go with metal, knowing that it will be inexpensive and easily replaced. However, there are several issues with metal in a child’s room to be concerned with. Parents should diligently inspect any metal furniture going into their child’s room prior to purchase.

Kids beds often become somewhat of a jungle gym, especially if you install bunks or lofts into the space. In choosing carefully the furnishings you’ll purchase, you need to test the stability of the design as well as the durability under pressure. Even if the product is perfectly reliable for rambunctious children, be aware of any spikes or sharp edges and corners that could cause injury to your child. These could be manufacturer flaws in one particular set or could be part of a design that you want to avoid.

If you have two children sharing a room, you may have a daybed with trundle set up in the room. This is a great option, and the metal trundle is a simple space saving device. However, you want to again test the durability of the metal structure and also the springs that are used to raise and lower the bed for sleeping and storage respectively. If these springs aren’t high quality, then your child could be hurt in the middle of the night by a fall.

Of course, kids bedroom furniture is perhaps the most important in regards to testing for safety, but since guest rooms are not frequently used, you may also opt for inexpensive metal beds in these rooms. It is important to inspect the safety of these as well, since your guests are important to you and unfamiliar with the furniture in your home.
