For many consumers, customized bedroom sets are an attractive option. The decision on the choice of bedroom furniture for a newly decorated bedroom is easier to come to if you purchase a matching set for the room, rather than having to visualize how items from different collections might look when placed together.
When you decide to put a bedroom set in your room, you may think that you will have to make a choice between style and convenience; this is not the case. With the huge range of bedroom furniture styles now available you can purchase bedroom sets that will look beautiful in the space, be practical, and also reflect your personality and taste.
If your taste leans towards a classic style, you may wish to consider a sleigh bed for your room. This popular choice lends an air of elegance to a bedroom. To complement the bed you could add identical night stands at each side for that balanced look. Including a dresser (with or without a mirror) and a TV console of the same design would finish off the room well.
A sleigh bed is lovely, but it’s not your only choice when it comes to bedroom sets; another option is the spindle bed. This is a bedroom furniture look that is suitable for teens and adults rooms alike. Made from quality materials, these sets will last for years. If you want to buy furniture that can be added to in the future to cope with the growing requirements of your child, this is definitely an option to consider. Why not add a matching hope chest as a finishing touch to a room, for your teenage daughter to store her most treasured items?
Nothing says, “Traditional” more than four-poster bedroom sets. This excellent choice of bedroom furniture gives you the option of adding pedestal drawers under the bed or leaving that space clear. No matter which particular style you choose, the result is a coordinated look that will make the bed the focal point of your room. You might consider adding a dresser or a treasure chest with a secret drawer for your personal and confidential items to finish off the room.
For the ultimate in luxury in a bedroom set consider a large headboard with a mirror and closed-in storage shelves. The combination of a night stand and storage cabinet on each side of the bed is both lovely to look at and also very functional. This feature is the perfect way to make your bed stand out as the focal point of your room.

You have the exciting and yet large task of decorating your bedroom, whether you have recently moved and you want to add your own flair or you need a revamp to your existing bedroom and bedroom furniture. You do not want to spend a fortune decorating your bedroom and bedroom furniture and you know that you have £x amount of money for the job in hand so how can you create super fantastic results with super little money?
Tips to help you decorate your bedroom and bedroom furniture for a small price
You may be thinking that in order to decorate your bedroom and bedroom furniture for not that much money you need to have a degree in art or be very good at designing and crafts, but this isn’t the case.
Firstly think about your bed. To keep costs down you may think you’ll do without the bed frame and simply put the mattress on the floor. This is doable but keep in mind that this approach is prone to mold due to moisture building between the mattress and the floor. A cheap and very funky way of creating a bed frame is to use wooden pallets, you can sand these down and varnish them or paint them white and place the mattress on top. Visit your local shops, or if there is a factory near by, and see if they have any spare or would be willing to sell you a couple for a good price. Make sure the pallets are in a clean and reasonable condition.
Bedroom furniture is the next thing that usually takes a big chunk of your money so how can you save costs on this? One way is to visit charity and secondhand shops, they sell some really great pieces of bedroom furniture and for a fraction of the price you pay in the high street. Another way is to buy low budget bedroom furniture from a high street shop such as a plain pine set of draws and wardrobes and decorate the furniture yourself. You can paint them in a different colour or use stencils to add your own personality to the room.
Bedroom furnishings are a very cheap and effective way to make your bedroom look homely and impressive. Keep an eye out for pieces of fabric or blankets that can be used as throws over a chair; this turns an ordinary bedroom chair into a chic and funky piece of bedroom furniture. Buy some fake flowers and a vase, these are relatively inexpensive but they’ll give your room a light and pretty feel to it, white lilies are good to give it a modern look or red / yellow roses will bring some colour into the bedroom.

The bedroom has gone full circle in history. Back in the day, Kings held court in their bedroom while surrounded by a multitude of pillows. All which could be viewed as the life of luxury or laziness.
American cottages consisted of one big room. This room held every activity thinkable: eating, sleeping, recreation, bathing, and sewing. As families grew and architects became more educated, homes were built that separated one large room into a bedroom. Today, bedrooms are a place to meditate, write letters, exercise, watch television, and sleep.
So…what about the décor?
Your bed is an essential piece of furniture. But that doesn’t mean that it has to look like any ordinary bed. Your room needs to make a statement about your personality and that begins with the bed you select. What type of bed are you?
Most bedrooms contain a mattress and foundation, nightstands, dresser, perhaps a chair and of course, a television. You should select each piece with care, as they will be with you for quite awhile. Be certain to select top quality. Furniture made out of maple or oak stand strong and makes a statement of “comfort”.
The main focus of your room is your bedroom set. The style you select, contemporary, modern, or antique, will set the stage for your room décor. For instance, you wouldn’t mix country with modern furniture or bright colors with earth tones. Unless, you’re a very unique individual.
Contemporary and Modern
A contemporary or modern bedroom set makes a statement of “Today”. On the fast track, up by the alarm, off to work or school, and never really resting until dusk. The beautiful pieces of furniture, some crafted from wood while others made from compressed board, is a style that changes by the decade.
Country and Antique. A country or antique bedroom set makes a statement of “Home”. Associated with warmness and living in a day when things were simple, this style of furniture tells visitors you’re warm hearted and laid back.
Décor Tip
Your drapes and bedding are two accessories you can easily change. Never change your comforter, duvet cover or quilt without considering refreshing the drapes or blinds. Stay with a rather neutral color. Wallpaper provides you with a multitude of styles and designs. But painting your walls is easier. Using a few techniques like rolling or sponging the paint, you can make paint appear as brilliant and textured as wallpaper. Plus, it’s easier to paint over paint than peel off wallpaper. A soft tone of paint compliments bright bedding. Lighting sets the mood. Not enough light will make one sleepy and almost depressed. The lighting sets the rooms’ atmosphere. Lights under the bed or dimmers on wall sconces make the room glow in an inviting way. Mood lighting is especially effective when it is visible from a sitting area off the bedroom. .
Be comfortable in your bedroom. Add the things that make you smile, a photo, a vase full of flowers, or a few throw pillows on your bed.

Decorating your bedroom should not be a job that you rush through. It takes time, preparation and planning to create the perfect space for your bedroom. Your bedroom is probably the most important room of your home, it’s where you will relax at the end of a hard days work, it’s where you can retire and read your book, it’s where you need to feel complete harmony and tranquility to get a good nights sleep each night. Here are some do’s and don’ts to follow when choosing your bedroom furniture and decorating your bedroom.
- Do make paper plans of your bedroom before you do anything else! Before you pick up a paint brush, before you purchase your bedroom suite, before you even say the word ‘bedroom’ you should have already made a plan of your bedroom and detailed out where your furniture will go, have an array of colour charts to show the colour scheme and a carefully selected range of fabrics. Preparation is key.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment. There is a common theme today that the plainer it is the better it is and this is true to an extent and for some people but there is also nothing wrong with choosing a colour scheme or a set of bedroom furniture that really shows off your personality and character. The key to this is for every extravagant choice whether it’s a piece of furniture or choice of paint, have a plain choice next to it to balance it out. For example you may want to choose a bold red for the walls but you are a fearful it is too much, why not have one wall in the deep red and the rest of the walls in white or an off white, extravagance plus plain equals perfection.
- Do shop around for your bedroom furniture. You may think all high streets sell the same bedroom furniture sets so what is the point of going from place to place and wasting time! Even if you only go to three shops make the time and go, you will be surprised at the different suites you will see. You are going to be living with this furniture for the next couple of years and so taking out a day or two finding the perfect furniture set isn’t too much to ask, you never know what golden treasurers you may come across.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for advice. Do you have a vision of how your bedroom can look but you aren’t a 100% sure how to pull it off? Don’t let pride or shyness get in the way go to your local paint shop or furniture store and ask them what they think, or maybe your next door neighbour is an interior designer or you love your friends decorating and want to know how they did it, ask! No question is silly.
